With almost 500 students, Writing, Literature and Publishing is a large department at Emerson College—but one that still provides the personal attention that students need to flourish as a writer or make their mark as a publisher. Housed in the School of the Arts, our department offers two undergraduate programs, a cross-departmental undergraduate degree program, and five minors.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing

The on-campus Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Creative Writing program provides students with foundational skills and practical experience in a range of forms and genres, with particular emphasis on their preferred area of written expression. The program culminates with a Senior Creative Thesis that puts students’ finely honed powers to the test.

Bachelor of Arts in Writing, Literature and Publishing

The on-campus Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Writing, Literature and Publishing program focuses on literary history and the world of publishing. The creative writing and critical thinking skills that students develop will prepare them for future study or a career in the arts or communication field.

At Emerson, we believe that great comedy stems from a huge bank of knowledge. The on-campus BFA in Comedic Arts sustains an intense focus on comedy, while remaining rooted in the liberal arts by exposing students to a wide range of perspectives.
